At Fordoun you get the whole experience …..
Fordoun has always supported local artists. At the moment they are show casing two local artist showing their works in the Hotel reception.
Sarah Richards is a local ceramicist who lives in the Balgowan area and is of international fame. She has executed many commissions including Fish Eagle sculptures used as gifts at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Her works have been sent nation wide and she has exhibited her works at various galleries in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The other local artist is painter, Georgina Elizabeth. Her works adorn hotels like the Oyster box . She honed her skills focussing on botanicals in fabric design in London and Italy for 8 years, working in various studios and learning a variety of techniques, and through her contacts there, keeps up to date on current trends. Recently relocated back to the midlands from the Cape, where she exhibited and sold her work at Gallery 91 in Somerset West, Georgina likes to keep colours fresh while incorporating her love for textile design into her paintings. Although her three children keep her very busy Georgina Elizabeth does do portraits by commission and is currently doing a collection focussing on the staff at Fordoun.
Fordoun’s support of local talent is ongoing and the use of Dr Ndlovu’s traditional products in the spa is a testament to this. Dr Ndlovu grew up in Tendele, at the top of the Kamberg valley. He has consulting rooms at the Hotel offering traditional health and healing to the Fordoun guests. Dr Ndlovu is a very colorful character and deserves a whole post to himself …keep a watchful eye for this, it promises to be a very interesting read.
