EXPERIENCES
Fordoun is located in the rolling grasslands of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, where the air is crystal-clear and smog and traffic are echoes of another lifestyle. Guests can enjoy gentle walks around the grounds, ride on mountain bikes along designated routes through the Fordoun estate. Fly-fishing is available on three still water dams at Fordoun or in season; in the pristine waters of the nearby Bushman’s or Mooi River. Golf is available at the magnificent Bosch Hoek or Gowrie Farm courses which are both just a few minutes away.

ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA
The Drakensberg is a world heritage site, also known as the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park; uKhahlamba meaning “the Barrier of Spears”. Most of the Drakensberg Mountains fall into the Kwa-Zulu Natal province and is a mere 2-hour drive from Fordoun Hotel. Sani Pass is a popular site when visiting the Drakensberg, and leads from Kwa-Zulu Natal crossing over into Lesotho. A 4×4 is needed to navigate the tough terrain up the Sani Pass, we suggest a guided 4×4 drive, for those not familiar with South African roads.
Self or guided hikes are also a great way to experience the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and a sighting of the impressive san rock art will be well worth the hike. For sheer rock climbing or gentle easier walks, the Drakensberg is a hiking paradise and an activity not to be missed.
